Downpours arrive all year here and end as quickly as they start. The hotel takes the upper floors of a building on Beach Road, around the corner from Arab Street, so a shower changes the last stretch of a walk rather than the shape of a whole afternoon.
Where everyone goes
The shared lounge holds the wait: guests sit with coffee or tea from the breakfast counter, use the laundry, and leave bags while the street dries. Check-in and departure hours put the same people in that room twice over, which is when it is at its fullest.
What stops working
The covered walkways outside keep most of the rain off, but the open lanes nearby do not, and stalls and outdoor tables may pack up. Anything planned for the gardens or the water tends to be moved later.
What the building does
The building answers with a lift and a covered frontage. Everything shared sits on one level, so nobody crosses weather inside the hotel, and the capsules are set back from windows and lit for sleeping at any hour.
