Rain in Amsterdam comes sideways, and this hotel avoids much of it by not having a street door of its own: it is one of the chain's addresses, set on two floors inside the World Trade Center, with direct access to the central hall of the building it sits in.
Where everyone goes
The day settles on the shared floor, with its long tables, its lounge corner by a glass fireplace, and a work area open at any hour. Guests going out cross the complex hall first, so coats stay dry longer than they would from a hotel with a pavement entrance.
What stops working
Reception is a set of self check-in kiosks rather than a desk, with staff nearby, so an arrival in the wet is quick but short on conversation. Terraces and the plaza outside depend on conditions and are often left empty.
What the building does
Being inside an office complex is the answer. The central hall works as a covered street, the station is a short protected walk, and the hotel's two floors need no outdoor crossing at all, which is the point of the address.
